ITV Local interviewed Jon Lord the day before the premier of his Durham Concerto. In the interview he speaks about the Durham Cathedral being the third cathedral he’s played in this year, and it being the icing on the cake.

The Durham Concerto was performed and also rehearsed at Durham Cathedral. John Attle wrote:

‘I was at the rehearsal and tried to capture the occasion in photographs. I have since spoken to one of the Cathedral stewards and they were most impressed with the performance.’

Durham Hammond preview

northern-echo-tv-clip.jpgThe evening before the premier of Jon Lord’s Durham Concerto, the Northern Echo is again covering the event – this time in a web-tv clip, which shows Jon rehearsing on the Hammond inside the cathedral and being interviewed outside.

He talks about the inspiration behind the Durham Concerto and how he is still being linked to Smoke On The Water. The interviewer mentions that Jon could not be persuaded to play a bit of the tune – but listen closely …

Durham Concerto: wide-screen and cinematic

On October 20 Jon Lord’s Durham Concerto is premiered by the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Mischa Darmev and with himself on Hammond organ at the Durham Cathedral in England.

On UK’s Classic FM radio, Barry McCann recently talked about the studio recording of Jon Lord’s Durham Concerto.

- Quite simply the most exciting composition I have heard for years. From its opening bars you know this is going to be a major work; wide-screen and cinematic in shape, the Durham Concerto is breathtaking. Deep Purple’s keyboard player should be proud, said Barry McCann.

Northern echoes interview

“It is to my father that I owe the fact that I’ve had a musical life,” says Jon, now 66. “Even though he was going out to Market Harborough Women’s Institute or something, it still seemed very romantic to me. He was a huge influence and my hero.”

It was from his father that Jon formed a love of music across all spectrums. Jon studied classical piano from the age of five and grew up listening to music ranging from Bach and Blues to jazz and Little Richard.

New Hoochie Coochie album out now

front.jpg‘Danger White Men Dancing’ is the title of the new studio album by The Hoochie Coochie Men featuring Jon Lord. It was released on October 1 through Edel Records. A special ltd. edition version with a DVD is also available.

The 13-track studio album also features Ian Gillan on two tracks and is the second collaboration between Jon Lord and Bob Daisley’s Australian combo The Hoochie Coochie Men.
