Interview: From Deep Purple to Disguises

In an interview with Performance Today, Jon Lord speaks of his latest works, Boom of the Tingling Strings and Disguises.

He also speaks of playing different styles of music:

- Since, really, the inception of Deep Purple in the late 60s, it’s been known to my buddies in the band that I kind of wore two hats. While I’m doing one kind of music, of course I give it 100% my attention and my ability, but I always felt I didn’t want to be one musician. I wanted to be as many musicians as I could split myself into.

Jon Lord featured in Gramophone Magazine

July’s edition of Gramophone Magazine includes a brief interview with Jon on page 13 about Boom Of The Tingling Strings, together with a very positive review on pages 67/68: “… a barnstorming, virtuoso finale that has Proms Favourite written all over it.”

Scottish Concerto for Group and Orchestra in 2009

Jon Lord’s Concerto for Group and Orchestra will be performed for the first time in Scotland next year (cities and venues to be confirmed).

News.scotsman.com reports on the event:

‘As music teachers go, he has to be one of the coolest in town. Deep Purple legend Jon Lord will be taking a group of budding Edinburgh rock stars under his wing as they prepare for a special performance of one of his seminal works.

The six local students, aged between 16 and 22, will be playing with Lord, as well as the Scottish Philharmonic orchestra and students from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama Glasgow, next year.’
