Sunflower Jam celebrates Jon Lord and fights pancreatic cancer

Exactly two months to the day Jon Lord passed, the Sunflower Jam 2012 will celebrate his memory with a special tribute and donate funds to the fight against pancreatic cancer.

The Sunflower Jam 2012 – at London’s Royal Albert Hall on September 16 – will feature a tribute to Jon. Details of the music featured have yet to be confirmed, but the list of stars performing on the night includes a slew of Jon’s peers; Ian Paice, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Brian May (Queen), Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Steve Balsamo, and more.

Jon Lord was a trustee of the charity and performed there seveal times, most recently with Rick Wakeman and Joe Bonamassa in 2011.

By supporting this year’s Sunflower Jam, you will be helping to fight pancreatic cancer, help research new approaches and enable all pancreatic cancer patients and their relatives to get all the information they require.

Lord & Wakeman world premiere at Sunflower Jam

The Sunflower Jam 2011 will be remembered for one of Jon Lord’s most rewarding appearances of 2011 – musically daring and performed with sharp excellence.

On an evening already rife with musical talent, Jon Lord shared the stage with Rick Wakeman for the pair’s brand new composition It’s Not As Big As It Was (allegedly about the music biz although it was preceeded by jokes about old age and prostate problems). This was without a doubt The Sunflower Jam’s musical crown jewel benefitting the good cause of helping children suffering from cancer. Donations are still welcome.

Jon Lord appears onstage after almost an hour of excellent music from the likes of Danny Bowes (Thunder), Gary Brooker, Joe Bonamassa and Newton Faulkner. These gentlemen (and woman) have entertained the crowd with blues and rock classics that fare very well, particularly Gary Brooker’s rendition of A Whiter Shade of Pale and Joe Bonamassa’s Thrill is Gone. However, Jon will proceed to seize the show and push up the excitement level several notches.

Jon Lord to open Hammond Lab in London

Jon Lord is set to cut the ribbon and officially open the new Hammond Keyboard Lab at London’s Tech Music Schools on November 28 2009. Joining him will be renowned Hammond player James Taylor.

Tech Music Schools says they are honoured to have such influential figures present for the opening of the all new premises.

The brand new Hammond Keyboard Lab features 6 x XK1 drawbar keyboards, XK3c drawbar keyboard, XK pro system 2 manual organ and a Leslie 2101 speaker system.

Jon Lord live with Glenn Hughes on CD

For the first time since 1976, Jon Lord and Glenn Hughes performed together at this year’s ChildLine Rocks in London. On June 1 the pair got together to play You Keep On Moving, a song first recorded by Deep Purple Mk 4 in 1975.

Concert Live have released an Instant Live recording of the entire show including the four songs that featured Jon Lord; Pictured Within, Child In Time, You keep On Moving and Smoke On The Water.

Jon Lord on live CD from ChildLine Rocks

Monday night’s ChildLine Rocks charity show in London is to be released on CD.

Featuring Jon Lord, Steve Balsamo, Glenn Hughes, Uriah Heep, Thunder, The Pretty Things and Hot Leg, Concerts Live are planning to release the show on a limited edition Instant Live 3CD.

The 3CD set will feature 2 audio CDs and a 3rd photo disc with exclusive instant photos from the night’s performances.

This will enable fans anywhere – those who went to the show – and those who were unable to attend – to experience the music performed on the night while supporting the good cause.

The 3CD-set sells at £20.00, and all profits will go directly to ChildLine – UK’s free, 24-hour helpline for children in distress or danger.
