New Jon Lord piece was ‘real treat’ at Nuthurst

July 6, 2009

St Andrew's Church, NuthurstJon Lord’s world premiere of ‘To Know Such Things’ was ‘a real treat’, reports David Crook.

He was there, when Jon Lord performed this new 20-minute piece on piano with Bruce Martin on flute and a 17-piece string orchestra at St Andrew’s Church, Nuthurst on July 5 as part of the Shipley Festival.

‘This wonderfully moving suite of six pieces was dedicated to Jon’s friend, the late Sir John Mortimer and performed in the presence of Sir John’s widow and daughter. Bruce Martin was the flautist, dealing admirably with a very challenging composition’, writes David Crook.

Bruce Martin is also scheduled to perform at Jon Lord’s concert at Lichfield Cathedral on July 17.
