To Notice Such Things, Jon’s solo album from 2010, is the latest instalment in our Works section.
Conductor Paul Mann has overhauled the scores for all the pieces on the album, which includes the title suite To Notice Such Things composed in honour of Jon’s late friend John Mortimer as well as three shorter pieces:
Evening Song, an instrumental version of the piece that first appeared on the Pictured Within album
For Example, Jon’s ode to Norwegian composer Edward Grieg
Air on the Blue String, an experiment in orchestral blues, if you like.
Each piece is accompanied by Jon’s own com original notes on their origin and his inspiration as well as Paul Mann’s insightful comments.
Air on the Blue String was performed a couple of times before being recorded for the album. Here is one such early rendition filmed at Zermatt Unplugged on April 9, 2008:

This is great work. Thanks! Jon’s own words about each composition are very precious. Is there a chance for wider notes about some of Jon’s works with Purple, for example “Shield”, “ANthem”, or “April”?
